HOPE AI tutoring

1 on 1 education for every student in the world.

HOPE is an AI tutor for students in grade 5 through university. It teaches concepts the way a great human tutor would: one-on-one, patient, and adapted to how each student actually learns.

Currently in early development. Talking to families and learning before we build further.

Why I'm building this

I'm Pasha Khoshkebari, a student at the University of Waterloo. Growing up, I watched a lot of students struggle in subjects like math, not because they couldn't do it, but because they didn't have access to the one-on-one support they needed.

Hiring a tutor is expensive. Kids can feel embarrassed asking for help. And most tutors only cover certain subjects, so families end up rotating through different people year after year.

I think an AI tutor, done right, could fix all three problems. HOPE is my attempt to figure out what "done right" actually means.

Right now I'm spending time talking with parents, tutors, and educators to understand what's actually hard about supporting a student's learning. I'd rather build the right thing slowly than the wrong thing fast.

The idea

What HOPE is, and what it is not

What HOPE is

A tutor that teaches concepts, not one that just gives answers. The goal is for students to actually learn the material, gain confidence, and become more independent learners over time.

What HOPE isn't

A homework-completion tool. A replacement for parents being involved in their kid's education. A generic AI chatbot like the ones in the news.

Right now

What I'm doing right now

Talking to families. I'm running 20-minute conversations with parents about what's actually hard, what they've tried, and what they wish existed.

If you're a parent of a student in grade 5 through university and you'd be open to a chat, I'd love to hear from you. No pitch, just learning.

If you're a tutor, teacher, or someone with a perspective on this, I'd love to hear from you too.

Who I'm learning from

  • Parents supporting students through difficult subjects
  • Tutors who know where students tend to get stuck
  • Teachers and educators thinking about AI in learning
  • Students who have used, avoided, or outgrown tutoring
